Final post on this topic.
Install of 1.6.07 had only one hitch,
Since I was doing a clean install and not an upgrade, I needed to drop the old database and create a new one.
I'm sure an upgrade would not have needed this.

The reason cpg_getimagesize did not work is because the thumbnail src is not the full path.
Anyway, cpg_getimagesize will give the width and height together as a string.

Solution

theme.php, theme_display_thumbnails

//get full thumnail path
$thumbImg =...

With Firefox inspect the rows that are not showing in the browser window have src gif 1x1px and the ones in view have src the real thumbnail.

Kind of a rainy, lazy Saturday...  Took some time now to craft a quick LazyLoad plugin.

This will probably need more work but those interested can try this and let me know the good and bad.
( should not be used with the theme modification above )

Hallo,
wenn man Bilder mit diesem Plugin herunterlädt sind sie fehlerhaft und können mit den meisten Programmen nicht angezeigt werden (Irfanview kann es)
Eigentlich müsste die Datei mit Hex:
ff d8
beginnen
es steht aber davor ef bb bf  siehe erste Ze...

Oh ... then you would have to solve it the same way - upload the core plugins to the plugins folder.

is in include functions.php
If you edit it, you will have to redo the edits every time you upgrade coppermine.

Is nice like that too.
